Abstract

642,563. Sheathed tubular electric heaters. PARNALL (YATE), Ltd. May 4, 1948, No. 12247. [Class 39(iii)] In making an electric heater having a resistance wire 8 supported in a sheath 1, granular refractory material is fed into the sheath from at least two independent sources of supply of material of different grain size, e.g. from containers 12, 13. Within the sheath 1 slides a filler tube 7 flared out at 11 to support the containers 12, 13 each having an adjustable shutter 16 in its base. Several sheaths are mounted vertically in a frame, and the bases of the sheaths are supported on a platform which is reciprocated vertically by cams rapidly rotated by an electric motor or electro-magnetic trembler. As the sheath fills, the powder moving under the filler tube 7 lifts it gradually to the top of the sheath. The filler tube 7 may slide within coil 8 when a sheath of large diameter is used, the tube then carrying a short outer sleeve adapted to slide within the sheath. The coiled or straight wire or strip resistance 8 is suspended from a hook 10.
