Abstract
579,200. Electric toasters. SAXER, T. Jan. 24, 1944, No. 1339. [Class 39 (iii)] In an electrical toasting apparatus in which articles of food are traversed along a radiating surface, the heat radiating device comprises a frame 15 carrying refractory rods 16 wound helically with a conductor so that the turns at the ends are closer than at the centre, whereby a more uniform toasting effect is obtained. Three groups of rods 17, 18, 19 are employed, spaced by gaps 20. A conveyer may move between upper and lower heaters of this form, in which the groups of one are opposite either the groups or the gaps of the other. The groups may be connected in parallel, and a central group may be thermostatically controlled. In another arrangement, the rods are parallel to the movement of the conveyer and are closer, together at the sides of the frame, the winding being uniform. In another form, Fig. 5, refractory blocks 23 have parallel slots 24 containing helical conductor 25, the slots being partly or wholly filled by refractory cement 26.
