Abstract
641,792. Fault testing. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 18, 1946, No. 37271. [Class 37] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a phase unbalance indicating device for a delta power supply systems, Fig. 1, the phase conductors 1, 2, 3 are interconnected by resistors R1-6 shunted by condensers C1-6 'and in series with rectifiers RU1-6, so that the rectified voltages appearing across the resistors are proportional to the respective interphase voltages and are equal when the phase voltages are balanced. The rectifiers are poled so that the voltages across each resistor of a pair returned to the same phase have the same polarity, and relays A, B, C are connected respectively across the junctions of such resistor pairs and their associated rectifiers. The relays A, B, C, each have 2 sets of contacts a1, a2, b1, b2, c1, c2, series connected in pairs a1 b2, b1 c2, c1 a2, in an alarm or cut out operative circuit foreach phase, Fig. 2. The relays are inoperative when the phase voltages balance, but voltage deviation of phase 1 for example operates relays A and B leaving relay C in. operative, so that the phase 1 alarm circuit is energized. Similarly, voltage deviations of phase 2 or phase 3 operate relays B, C and A, C respectively. Explanatory vector diagrams are included. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), 2 relays only are employed with a 3-phase supply, and in a further modification (Figs. 4, 5, not shown), the device is applied to a 5- phase supply. The invention is also applicable to a star connected system.
