Abstract

641,667. Ships' sterns. SOC. DES ATELIERS ET CHANTIERS DE FRANCE, and CARLOTTI, P. Sept. 12, 1947, No. 25004. Convention date, Dec. 12, 1946. [Class 113 (ii)] In a hull stern 1, a rear profile 4 extends tangentially from the hull bottom and has a large radius of curvature and no inflexion, rear sections have a horizontal tangent to the ship's symmetry plane, no inflexion and arc of very rounded form with concavity upwardly, longitudinal sections V have the same character as the profile 4, and an appendage 2 is situated in the symmetry plane with a leading edge 3 which leaves the profile 4 without hollow curvature at a point 5 above the plane 22 of the hull bottom. Vertical sections of the appendage 2, perpendicular to the symmetry plane are of hair-pin form with two long branches rectilinear and vertical, and tangent planes to the appendage 2 at their junction with the hull are normal to the hull tangent planes at these points. No hollow curvature exists at the junction between the appendage 2 and the hull 1. The edge 3 is rectilinear and inclined at 60 to 90 degrees to the tangent at the point 5 while a profile 6 is straight and lies in the prolongation of the hull bottom. The rear edge is formed by two straight edges 8, 9 which include an angle of 150-170 degrees which is bisected by a shaft 7 of a single screw. A horizontal wing provided at its ends with bearing sleeves for the shafts of twin screws is carried perpendicularly to the appendage 2 while the leading edges of the wing and sleeves are spaced from the hull 1.
