Abstract

640,702. Lasts. PELANT, V. Sept. 17, 1946, No. 27850. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 17, 1946.] [Class 17(i)] In copying a group of lasts from a master last on a copying machine, 'the dimensions of the fore part up to approximately the centre are made proportional to the variation of size from the master last, and in the rear half the heel periphery and length are varied non-proportionally with the variation in size. Approximately one quarter of the difference in length is allotted to the forward and rear thirds of the last and the remaining half to the middle third to lengthen the foot-arch portion. A comparison of such a last, drawn in full lines, with a master last as normally used, shown in chain-dotted lines, is shown in the figure, the differences in form under the arch and across from heel to instep being; indicated. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the reduced increase of widths in the heel portion as well as the uneven distribution of the increments of length in relation to the entire length of the last, which render the lasts of a series not in the same proportion at all parts as in the master last, as is usual, render necessary adjustment of the milling cutters of a last copying milling machine version of a copying milling machine, Moreover, feelers employed for the milling cutters of a copying machine for making a series of lasts are of a diameter of 5 cm. (2 inches) or less in order to obtain a finer finish than is obtainable with the cutters of 10-20 cm. (4 to 8 inches) hitherto used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
