[Class 83 (iii)] In a multi-spindle drilling or boring machine having the tool spindles d arranged in an aligned row and driven from a common gear c<SP>1</SP> or gear-carrying shaft, the spindles are journalled in vertical openings b<SP>1</SP> in a housing b detachably and adjustably secured to the front face of a vertically-movable slide a on the machine. Sleeves e for the spindles are secured in the openings b<SP>1</SP> by set-screws f<SP>1</SP>. The housing b has flanges b<SP>2</SP>, b<SP>3</SP> which receive between them the gears c, c<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>2</SP> for driving the spindles. Accurate location of the housing in relation to the slide is effected by means of one or more screws h at one end of the housing co-operating with one or more adjustable stops i at the other end, screws f, g being provided to fasten the housing in position.
