Abstract

Dyes are made by acylating a mono-oxymono-amino-anthraquinone, of which the oxy group is in 1-position and the amino group in 5-position, using an acylating agent capable of introducing the residue of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid containing at least 3 carbon atoms. Monocarboxylic acids specified are propionic, valeric, butyric, caproic, caprylic, lauric, palmitic, stearic, or oleic. Inert media specified are pyridine, acetone, nitrobenzene, or chlorbenzene, or excess acylating agent may be employed. The products dye or print cellulose esters (e.g. the acetate), superpolyamides, superpolyurethanes, and polyvinyl compounds yellow shades, and colour fats and oils. Examples describe the reaction of 1-amino-5-oxyanthraquinone with propionyl chloride, and the use of the acid-pasted product, in admixture with sulphite cellulose waste liquor, to dye cellulose acetate.
