Abstract
639,159. Liquid fuel burners. GUILLOT, E. J. F. Oct. 21, 1947, No. 28129. Convention date, Oct. 22, 1946. [Class 75 (i)] A burner adapted to burn heavy oil in low pressure air comprises in combination two co-axial nozzles each terminating in.a conical part having a cylindrical outlet orifice and each cooperating with an inner hollow needle valve, means being provided for admitting fuel oil to the annular gap between each nozzle and the needle valve co-operating therewith, and with two conduits supplying air to the interior of the hollow needle valve and over the outer wall of the nozzle, respectively, the latter stream being directed into a spiral movement converging towards the axis of the burner, the construction being such that the two concentric fuel rings discharged from the two nozzles may first be expanded into very thin films by the pressure due to the inner air streams and by the rarefaction produced by the outer air streams and then atomized by the outer air streams. Fuel oil is supplied to the nozzles 2, 25 through conduits 12, 31, respectively, and annular passages containing flow regulating perforated rings 10, 29. Air is supplied to a nozzle 7 surrounding the nozzle 2 through an inlet 17 and an opening in a rotary sleeve 38 which may be turned by a handle 41 to regulate the air flow, air being passed to the interior of the inner needle valve 27 through a flexible pipe 37, and to the annular gap between the nozzle 25 and the outer needle valve 4 through a conduit 14 controlled by a manually operated valve 18. Helical blades 44, 46 are provided on the outer surfaces of the nozzles 2, 25, respectively, for imparting spiral movements to the air streams. The needle valve 27 is adjusted by a rotary handwheel 34 to regulate or cut off the fuel flow through the nozzle 25, whilst a rotary handwheel 21 controls the needle valve 4 which regulates or cuts off the fuel flow in the outer nozzle 2. Specification 392,030 is referred to.
