Abstract

638,592. Goggles. FISH OPTICAL CO., Ltd., and McCABE, V. G. Nov. 20, 1947, No. 30858. [Class 97 (i)] Spectacle-type goggles comprise a rim for each eyepiece, a break in each rim united by a screw or bolt to allow removal of the eyepieces and side arms pivoted to the temporal sides of each rim at points different from that at which the bolt is located, the side arms being curved inwardly so as to grip behind the wearer's head. As shown, the rims 12, 13 are divided in the upper portion, one end of a bridge 17 being welded to the rim at one side of the break, the rim having an attachment 23 at the other side through which a screw 24 passes into the threaded end of the tubular bridge 17 to hold the eyepieces in place. An auxiliary bridge 16 may, if desired, be provided. The side arms each comprises flexible strips 25, 26, the strip 25 bearing a U-shaped clip (not shown) engaging an ear 19 fixed to the rim and having a portion 28 overturned to engage the strip 26, the ends of which are bent to engage the back of the wearer's head. The latter strip has a series of holes 29 in which a screw 30 on the strip 25 may be engaged to vary the length of the arms. Leather screens 20 are also provided and the eyepieces 14, 15 may be of coloured or " safety " glass.
