Abstract

638,133. Injection-moulding machines. CARON, L. J. Dec. 11, 1945, No. 33508. [Class 87 (ii)] An injection-moulding machine comprises a plasticizing cylinder 7, Fig. 2, having a nozzle 114 for injecting moulding material through the fixed die-holding plate 9 and maintained in and retracted from moulding position by a fluid pressure cylinder 130, and a movable die-holding plate 12, Fig. 8, moved by a toggle linkage 23, 29 operated by links 25 and piston rod 28 of a fluid pressure cylinder 2 which is adjustable to adjust the position of the range of movement of the plate 12. Moulding material is fed from a hopper 4, Fig. 2, into a bore 110 and is forced through the nozzle 114 to the die by a plunger 5 operated by a cylinder 6. The cylinders 6, 7 are both mounted on a slide 108 moved to and fro by the cylinder 130. The cylinder 2, Fig. 8, is exteriorly screw-threaded and mounted in twin nuts 46, 52 which are normally screwed together to clamp the cylinder on a plate 16 fixed on the machine frame. To adjust the range of movement of the plate 12 the fluid pressure cylinder 2 is operated to move the plate to moulding position as shown in Fig. 8 and the nut 52 is rotated to unclamp the cylinder by a ratchet handle mounted on a strap 72 surrounding the nut and engaging depressions 76 in the nut. During this movement spring pins 56 on the nut 52 engage bores in the nut 46 so that the two nuts rotate together and engage either side of the plate 16 to adjust the position of the cylinder 2 and the plate 12. The piston rod 28 of the cylinder 2 and the plate 12 are maintained aligned by an ,extension 28 of the piston rod which engages in a cylinder in a bracket 86 mounted on the plate 12. An ejection pin 98 is mounted in the bracket 86 and has one ejection plate 96 adapted to be engaged by fixed pins on retraction of the plate 12.
