[Classes 16 and 146 (i)] A suspension filing device comprises a series of hanging folders positioned side-by-side for lateral access, each folder having at least on the outer surface of its forward marginal edge a folded over portion in pocket form in which is engaged the flap portion of a separate connecting guide slip comprising also at least two leaflets removably engaged within two adjacent folders respectively. Referring to Figs. 9 and 12, each folder 20, 21 is formed with turned back edges 2, 3, 4, 5, the end edges 4, 5 being provided with suspension wires 7, 8 and the forward edge 2 may be further reinforced by a further folding over. The connecting guide slip comprises four leaflets 11, 12, 13, 14 formed from two leaves folded and clipped together along a line 10, the inner leaflets 11, 12 being folded in half to form two flap members 18, 19 which engage resoectively with the pockets 2 on the adjacent folders 20, 21, the leaflets 13, 14 then being inserted into these folders. Referring to Fig. 21, the guide slip is formed from three leaves 31, 32, 33 connected together so that an extension 36 is formed, the centre leaf 32 being folded back to form a flap 34 which engages with the one pocket 2 on a folder and the leaflets 31, 33 being inserted into the adjacent folders to join them together. The extension may be shorter than the guide slip or the same depth. In a modification of this form the guide slips extend for the full depth of the folder. The guide slips may be permanently secured to the folders, as by gluing. Tabs. The extension 36, Fig. 21, is formed with a sloping outer edge to which is secured an index slip holder 37. The connecting guide slips may be positioned at different heights as indicated at 38 to form a stepped arrangement for the index slips. In the modification extending the full depth of the folder, a sloping edge is formed at the top of the extension to which the index slip holder is secured. For similar documents in adjacent folders, only one of the connecting guide slips has an extension for an index slip. Different size or shape guide slips may be used for indexing purposes.
