Abstract

636,680. Tinning; coating with metals. GREEN, C. G. Dec. 10, 1946, No. 36406. [Class 82(ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In tinning metals, e.g. aluminium, nickel-copper, and nickel-iron alloys, or glass, plastics, ceramics or the like, the work and/or the molten metal are vibrated in contact by the induced current used for melting the metal. Parts to be treated are dipped in solder 1 heated by electric induction in an iron, steel &c. cup 2 vibrated at 15,000 to 45,000 cycles per second, preferably 20,000 cycles per second by an induction coil 4. The cup 2 may be mounted on a non-magnetic, e.g. brass core 3 of lowed specific heat. The cup 2 may resonate at a higher harmonic of the induction current frequency. In tinning wires, insulation, e.g. rubber, enamel &c. need not be stripped off and fluxing is not required. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 217,749. [Class 83(iv)], 310,812, [Class 82(ii)], and 467,308, [Group XXII].
