[Class 136 (iii)] A hand shield against wind and rain for attachment to the handle bars of a motor cycle or the like comprises a two-part clamp 2 shaped to embrace and grip the handle bar, a hood 1 of self-supporting (shape retaining) material having means at one end for attaching it to the clamp and affording an opening which, when the shield is mounted in position on the handle-bars by means of the clamp, is substantially lateral to the handle bar grip; the clamp constituting the sole means for attaching the hood to the handle bar. As shown, the hood 1 is of trough shape and the end opposite the clamp 2 is either left open or provided with a rearwardly extending end wall 1a. The upper and lower edges of the lips of the trough 1 are. flanged outwards at 1b and may be turned forwards to provide a channel which prevents rain water being blown on the riders' sleeve. The trough 1 is secured to a clamp 2 by a universal joint. The trough is secured to a cup member 3 of part-spherical formation having an axial aperture gripped between spherical parts 6, 7 by a clamping bolt 5. The parts 1, 3 may be integral, joined together by rivets or the trough may be moulded onto the cup. To prevent undue damage to the hand shield in the event of an accident a flangible member is provided to connect the hand shield to the clamp. As shown in Fig. 4 the clamp 2a is formed with a socket 11 in which a forwardly directed lug 12 on the mounting means 13 is retained by a shear pin 14. The hand shield may be adapted to be swung forwardly of the handle bars into an inoperative position to permit of the motor cycle being parked by leaning the handle bars against a wall without damage to the hand shield. As shown in Fig. 6, the mounting means 13 is pivoted at 16 to a member 17 on the bracket 2b. The rearward movement of the hand shield is limited by a stop 18 on the bracket 2b co-operating with a lug 19.
