611,361. Shoes for walking on mud. PAINE, H. SCOTT-. April 29, 1946, No. 12895. Convention date, May 8, 1945. [Class 113 (ii)] [Also in Group VII] A device for attachment to the foot 100 to facilitate walking on mud comprises a watertight shell of thin sheet material, such as aluminium, wood or plastic material, with a step formation 26, 28, at a right angle or other angle to the centre line on its under side, and with sides 22 extending upwardly and outwardly to a forward portion and with the rear end 34 square. Clamping means operated by a toggle lever 98 secure the device to the foot. The device may have a waterproof cover and also an upwardly extending channelled portion around which a cord 78 may be drawn tight and secured, to attach the lower end of a gaiter 76 to the device. A U-shaped sheet metal portion with its sides connected to the sides of the device at the rear may be held in a raised inactive position or in a lowered active position to serve as a brake to prevent forward sliding. The shells may be rested within one another for transport.
