Abstract
635,405. Endless elevators. BUTTERLEY CO., Ltd., and FOSTER, F. H. April 1, 1948, No. 9212. [Class 78 (i)] The upward and downward runs of an endless elevator are each enclosed in a casing built-up from main and connecting sections which spigot into one another and are enclosed by plates secured to the main sections. In the embodiment shown, each casing C, D is built-up from a plurality of sections, Fig. 4, which are secured to one another by connecting members, Fig. 5. Each section comprises four pipes a connected together by plates b or by a single sheet metal enclosure b<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, welded to the pipes, whilst each connecting member consists of four short lengths of metal pipe c of slightly less external diameter than the bore of the pipes a, each with a collar d which serves as a distance piece to limit the extent to which the pipes c can be pushed into the pipes a, the collars being interconnected by welded plates e. Lugs f on adjacent collars in one casing are connected to corresponding lugs in the other casing by tie pieces g. The plates b or b<SP>1</SP> extend beyond the pipes a a distance equal to half the length of the collars d. The head h and base i of the elevator are spigoted into the pipes a at the top and bottom of the casings.
