Abstract

635,300. Pulse multiplex signalling. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 1, 1947, No. 21023. Convention date, April 24, 1946. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XL (b)] Sound signals accompanying television signals are transmitted as time-modulated pulses superimposed on the blanking pulses, the transmission of horizontal synchronizing pulses being suppressed. The sound pulses 14 are generated by means of a " cusper " modulator and superimposed on the blanking pulses 12 in a conventional mixing device to which vision signals 13 and frame equalizing and synchronizing pulses 15 and 16 respectively are also applied. Receiving means suitable for translating a composite wave-form of this kind is provided with a high-Q filter, tuned to the horizontal pulse frequency, to supply a reference wave for use in the sound demodulating system and also to control the generation, by means of a " cusper " circuit, of synchronizing pulses for control of the horizontal scanning oscillator: Specifications 592,741, 596,011 and 600,244 are referred to.
