[Class 141] Ties are formed in two or more continuous lines upon double thickness material the wider parts of the ties in one line juxtapositioning with the neckbands of ties in an adjacent line the side edges of the ties being defined by pairs of narrowly spaced lines of stitches, the lines of ties being separated by slitting between said lines of stitches. Specification 577,959 is referred to. In one embodiment a band of material 36 inches wide, which may have prominent warp threads or printed markings to guide slitting and folding operations is formed into 18 inch bands, Fig. 2, each of which is folded so that the a and b edges are coincided with the centrally placed c line, each edge being held down by a line of stitches g, Fig. 3, closely spaced from the c line. The doublethickness band so formed is passed beneath a four-needle sewing machine which applies a closely spaced double row of stitches, which may have a distinctive colour at e and e<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, the machine being traversed during alternate 12 inch feeds of the material to shape neck bands, wide ends and intermediate tapering portions of four lines of ties A, B, A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP>. The ties are separated by slitting between the closely spaced lines of stitching and are cut to length across the lines SS S<SP>1</SP>S<SP>1</SP>, the material being formed across its width along lines SS S<SP>1</SP>S<SP>1</SP> with a mock or internal selvedge woven across the width to prevent end-fraying. In a modification, Fig. 6, (not shown), three lines of ties are formed, the outer lines forming ties of the asymmetrical form shown in Fig. 5, and the central line forming ties of a symmetrical form.
