[Class 81(ii)] [Also in Groups XIX, XXXVI, XXXVIII and XL(c)] In an electrocardiograph the body potentials are recorded by apparatus employing a known system of negative feedback. The potentials are fed from electrodes W, X, Y. Z, Fig. 1, over switches N, N' to an amplifier V1 feeding amplifiers V2, V3 supplying a push-pull pair V4, V5 whose output is fed to the moving coil Cg nf a recorder: an auxiliary coil Ca carried by the coil Cg generates an emf. which is applied degeneratively to the input of V1 and may be applied regeneratively to the moving coil Cg over a filter circuit Q. A gas discharge tube G between valves V3, V4 provides a voltage drop to equalize the potentials applied to V4 and V5. Moving coil recorder. The moving coil Cg, Fig. 12, carries the auxiliary coil Ca and oscillates rod 23 to cause the stylus S, Fig. 4, to oscillate about pivot 25. The stylus has a heating coil (not shown) to record on waxed paper. It is maintained in contact with the paper by roller 29 pressed down by spring arm 28, Fig. 3, and can be lifted off the paper by movement of lever 31, Fig. 7. The paper is stored on roller O and is drawn over the platen 59b by feed rollers (not shown) driven by a motor. The feed rollers may actuate a cam to close contacts to provide a calibrating voltage applied to the input of the amplifier.
