Abstract

A dihalide of an aliphatic, normally liquid mono-olefin is prepared by contacting such an olefin with a free halogen in a liquid medium in the presence of a small proportion of titanium tetrachloride. The process is effected as described in the parent Specification. In examples, apparatus of the kind referred to in the parent Specification is used for chlorinating hexene or heptene, titanium tetrachloride being introduced in dichlorhexane or by entrainment in the chlorine.
