Abstract
634,157. Stud-and-socket fastenings. EVERY, C. E. (Illinois Tool Works). April 29, 1946, No. 12890. [Class 44] [Also in Group XXIII] A plate clamping device formed from sheet metal has its entering end in the form of a conical ended cup 20, Figs. 2 and 5, and the remainder of the shank is of semicylindrical form with abutting edges. Stamped out tongues 24 engage one of the plates 16 whilst resilient wings 26 formed on the ends of the shank portions engage the other plate 14 and apply clamping pressure. Release is effected by a tool having a hollow end 28a, Fig. 8, of elliptical form, the major diameter of the ellipse permitting the tool to pass over the tongues 24 whilst a quarter turn depresses the tongues to permit withdrawal under the pressure of the wings 26, which are curved at the ends to prevent scratching of the plates. In a modification the device has thin wings and tongues.
