Abstract

634,119. Making electric lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 12, 1947, No. 12800. Convention date, May 11, 1946. [Class 39 (ii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] In apparatus for tipping off the exhaust tube 26 of a wireless valve, fluorescent or other lamp 1 or similar device, for example at one station of an indexed machine having exhausting apparatus as described in Specification 543;079, [Group XL], the tipping off burners 5, 6, supplied by pipes 31, 32, are carried by a head 7 which is moved into and out of proximity to the tube by the axial reciprocation of a rod 13. In case the tube is not quite in alignment with the burners the head 7 is carried by a rod 9 having a disc 10 which can slide transversely in a housing 12, 14 at the top of the rod 13, the disc moving on balls 11. Transverse movement of the disc is produced by the engagement with the lamp &c. of a flared guide 4 secured by a bracket 8 to the head 7.
