Abstract

A core for use in the moulding of a rubber, thermosetting or thermoplastic resin article consists of a fused mass of one or more soluble metal salts. The cores are cast in moulds. The solvent is preferably water but it may be alcohol. Suitable mixtures or compositions are:-(1) sodium carbonate and nitrate and potassium nitrate, (2) potassium, sodium, zinc and manganous chlorides, (3) magnesium and ferrous chlorides, (4) sodium nitrate, (5) sodium and potassium carbonates and sodium nitrate, and (6) sodium acetate with or without other metal acetates. To form articles of rubber and brass or brass-plated metal bonded to the rubber, the core may be cast directly into the metal part and the core with the metal part positioned in the mould. The mixture is preferably a eutectic mixture.
