Abstract

Synthetic resin moulding powders for the production of dental protheses or artificial limbs are made by cutting up or grinding highly polymerised block polymers or pearl polymers. The pearl polymers which contain bubbles of air and water are pre-treated by racking and then comminuted in a ball mill until no whole pearls are left. Block polymers produced by polymerisation of monomeric compounds without dispersing media or diluents are cut into shreds and comminuted in a mill. When high accuracy is required in the moulded product such as optical lenses and dental protheses the comminuted polymers e.g. methylmethacrylates, are mixed with monomeric polymerisable compounds. The block polymers may be produced by heating monomers with catalysts. The polymers used may be mixed polymers of vinyl chlorides and vinyl acetates.
