Abstract
A brush or comb for dyeing, bleaching, waving or otherwise treating living hair is made of a mass of chemically inert water-soluble synthetic polymers, e.g. methyl cellulose or polyvinyl alcohol, with which is incorporated a dyestuff, bleaching agent or other treating agent, which mass is cut to form a comb or cut into thin bars or rods which are attached to a backing to form a brush. Suitable masses for making combs or brushes for dyeing hair comprise (a) methyl cellulose, paraphenylene diamine (or p-aminodiphenylamine-p-sulphonic acid), sodium carbonate, water and dioctyl ester of sodium sulphosuccinic acid; (b) methyl cellulose, p - aminophenol, paratolylene diamine, sodium carbonate and water and (c) methyl cellulose, p-aminophenol-o-sulphonic acid, sodium carbonate and water. The hair is combed or brushed while wet and hydrogen peroxide may afterwards be applied to oxidize the dyestuff. A mass having hair-waving properties comprises methyl cellulose, sodium carbonate, sodium bisulphite, water and dioctyl ester of sodium sulphosuccinic acid. The dyestuff or bleaching agent may be omitted to give a product which may be used for setting the hair, or it may be replaced by a hair oil e.g. a brush or comb may be made from a mixture of methyl cellulose and an aqueous emulsion containing olive oil and triethanolamine.ALSO:A brush or comb for dyeing, bleaching, waving or otherwise treating living hair is made of a mass of chemically inert water-soluble synthetic polymers, e.g. methyl cellulose or polyvinyl alcohol, with which is incorporated a dyestuff, bleaching agent or other treating agent, which mass is cut to form a comb or cut into thin bars or rods which are attached to a backing to form a brush.
