[Class 112] Feed by dog.-The feed dog 3 derives its horizontal and vertical motions from rocking shafts 2, 1 respectively, actuated in the usual way from the needlebar shaft. One movement of the feed-dog carrier 10 is preferably accommodated by flexure, or flexible mounting, of the carrier. In the form shown, the shaft 2 carries a vertical arm with a ball end engaging a block 31 having longitudinal sliding engagement in the carrier 10, and the shaft 1 has a depending arm linked to a similar arm 15 pivotally mounted on an extension of a loop-taker shaft bearing 42 and provided with a horizontal arm 25 which engages the underside of the carrier. The carrier 10 is connected by a strip of spring steel 12 to a member 10a mounted on a vertical pivot 11 placed at sufficient distance from the feed-dog for the movement of the latter to be substantially rectilinear. Frames.-The bearings 41 for the feed rockshafts 1, 2 and bearings 42 for the loop-taker shaft 20 are carried by a skeleton frame 40 secured at its ends to the base of the machine and thus readily removable to allow access to the mechanism. Driving by hand gearing.-The needle-bar shaft and the-loop-taker shaft are both geared to an intermediate spindle on which a hand-crank is fixed. Lock-stirching.-The retainer 52 for the loop-taker bobbin is mounted on horizontal pivot pins below the level of the loop-taker shaft 20 and held in its operative position by a spring catch 55.
