Abstract
631,160. Centrifugal honey extractors. MOUNTAIN GREY APIARIES, Ltd., and HEATON, G. Jan. 29,1948, No. 2733. [Class 23] Honey-combs h<SP>1</SP>-h<SP>7</SP> are supported in a cage, rotatable on a horizontal axis, comprising end plates 1, 2 secured in position by bolts a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>4</SP> and the like. The cages are formed from bent bars 3, 4 the combs h<SP>1</SP>-h<SP>7</SP> being located at their edges by the bolts a<SP>1</SP>-a<SP>4</SP> and the like. For oversize combs the bolts may be transferred to holes d<SP>1</SP>-d<SP>4</SP>. Three sets of bolts and bars, each holding combs, can be arranged and after trial and error balancing. and rotation by hand, through a belt drive 27, the cage shaft 10 may be power driven by a separate belt drive 28. The cage is secured to its shaft by. screws 11 and the shaft is mounted in anti-friction bearings 16, 17, the bore of the latter being enlarged to permit axial withdrawal of the shaft. The cage rotates in an inner semi-circular casing 19 which is closed by a semi-circular cover with sides 201, 20<SP>2</SP> mounted for rotation on the shaft 10. The junctions of the inner 19, and outer casings 12, 13 contain sealing strips 21, which also completes the sealing of the cover when closed. Honey is extracted from a groove at the bottom of the inner casing 19 by a tube which passes through the casing wall 13. The combs may be locked in position by any means but preferably using the means described in Specification 631,161. For cleaning purposes, the cage may be rotated in water or other liquid. Two cages may be mounted side-byside in a common outer casing, being selectively driven by an electric motor. In the Provisional Specification, a centre plate, intermediate the end plates 1, 2, is described.
