Abstract

631,113. Cord-like pesticidal devices. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 11. 1946, No. 27291. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1945. [Class 81 (i)] A pesticidal vapour producing device of cord-like structure, other than a safety fuse cord wherein one or more of the textile yarn coverings around the powder core are coated or impregnated with a thermally vapourisable pesticide compound, comprises a plurality of substantially parallel supporting filaments 1 each adherently coated with an oxygen sufficient combustile powder 2 and confined by a plurality of directly and reversely wound helically disposed and openly spaced strips of binding material 3 and 4, the filaments or binding strips being coated or impregnated with a pesticidal vapour-producing material, while the whole structure is covered with one or more layers of waterproof material 5 and 6. In Fig. 2 (not shown) one of the waterproof layers may be placed around the filaments 1-2. Although the filament and binding strips may be of combustile material such as textile fibres and yarn, paper or thermoplastic material, it is preferred that they should consist at least in part of non-combustile material such as asbestos, glass fibre or fireproofed textile fibres. Specified pesticides are D.D.T., benzene hexachloride, pyrethrum, rotenone bearing materials and nicotine which are distributed throughout the cord in such a manner as to ensure a uniform dispersal of the pesticidal vapour when the cord is ignited. The pesticide may be incorporated with the oxygen sufficient combustile powder by means of a binder consisting of a solution of nitrocellulose, other cellulose esters or ethers, or other combustile plastic or resinous materials. Mealed black powder as des-. cribed in Specification 492,438 and in United States Specification 2,072,720, nitrocellulose or thermite type powders are suitable oxygen sufficient combustile powders. Specifications 524,714 and 541,363 also are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a structure in which the core consists of the combustile powder in granular or dust form, the pesticide being intimately admixed therewith or forming an annular layer, which is separated from the core by a similar layer of textile material or paper, the whole being surrounded by a textile and then a waterproof covering. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
