Abstract

629,007. Cupping. KELLER, J. Feb. 10, 1947, No. 3897. [Class 83 (iv)] Apparatus for extracting a drawn article from the end of a punch includes parts which engage the article and force it off the end of the punch, and parts which surround and support the article to an extent sufficient to prevent deformation while it is being forced off the punch. When the punch 1 and drawn article 2 have reached the position shown in Fig. 2, the movement of a rack 5 is translated through wheels 6, 7 and 7<SP>1</SP>, and rack 8 to a slide 9 carrying members 10 and 11, which are thereby moved into a position having a slight clearance from, or resting lightly upon the punch 1 and article 2 respectively. The mechanism is duplicated on the opposite side of the punch. When the punch 1 is retracted the end 13 of the article 2 engages the shoulder 14 of the members 10 and is removed from the punch and held by the members 11. After the punch has been fully withdrawn the rack 5 is moved in the reverse direction, members 10 and 11 move apart from the corresponding members on the opposite side of the punch, and the drawn article is released. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the members 10 and 11 are caused to open and close through a toggle mechanism. Specification 625,011 is referred to.
