Abstract

628,919. Propelling pencils. MOST, L. J. July 29, 1947, Nos. 20396 and 20397. Convention dates, July 15, 1939, and Feb. 3,1940. [Class 146 (iii)] In a propelling pencil two spaced lead guides each having a bore of angular cross-section are disposed at either end of an interiorly threaded member which engages the lead and means are provided for producing relative turning of said guides and threaded member to feed the lead. A threaded member 17 positioned between two lead guides 13 and 16 is rotated by resilient arms 19 which engage recesses in the periphery of the member 17. The arms 19 are carried by a rotatable magazine 21 carrying a knob 25. The lead guides 13 and 16 are connected to a yoke 15, the guide 13 is held in a non-rotatable tip 11. In a modification, the guides are rotated by the pencil tip while the threaded member is held stationary. In a further modification, the threaded member 17 may be rotated by a pinion in mesh with teeth on the threaded member and which is driven by a magazine provided with teeth at its lower end.
