[Classes 78 (ii), 78 (iii), 78 (iv) and 78 (v)] [Also in Group XXXII] A hoist arrangement comprises a fluid pressure actuated cylinder and plunger 38, 36, the plunger 36 carrying a pulley 35 over which passes a rope 33 secured at one end to an eyelet 45 on a sleeve 47 secured to the cylinder 38 and at the other end to the body to be lifted, e.g. as shown to a yoke 32a on the forward end of a vehicle body 22 adapted to be tipped relatively to the chassis about a rear axis. Inlet and exhaust of pressure fluid supplied by a manually operated pump through a conduit 66 is controlled by manually operated valves, a throttle valve being provided to control the rate of exhaust. Outward movement of the plunger 36 is limited by a slotted disc 42 which engages a hooked rod 40 secured to the cylinder 38, the hook 41 being normally perpendicular to the slot in the disc 42. As shown the cylinder 38 is pivotally mounted at 55 to the side sills 28 of the body to tilt as the body is tipped, and the tilting is restrained by springs 61 bearing on the heads (not shown) of pins 59 projecting through slots in the base-plate 53 of the cylinder. A bracing member 91 holds the reservoir for the actuating liquid. In its lowered position the body is secured to the chassis by hook 95 on the chassis side sills 28 which engage pins 96 on the body side sills 23, or alternatively a bolt released by fluid pressure may be provided which automatically unlocks when the pump is operated to tip the body. Hoists according to the invention may also be used for example to pull posts out of the ground.
