[Class 135] [Also in Group XXXI] An actuating lever mechanism for a movable member has a torsion spring rod connection between the lever and the member. As shown, the invention is applied to a pedal 25 for actuating a self-lapping valve 4. A torsion rod 30 carried in bearings 31, 32 on the pedal has levers 38, 39 fixed to its ends, the lever 39 bearing on the valve-operating element 14 and the lever 38 abutting an adjusting screw 42 threaded in the pedal. The lever 39 bears against a pin 41 carried by a bracket on the pedal so that by turning the lever 38 by means of the screw 42 the torsional stress in the rod may be adjusted. Downward movement of the pedal and element 14 opens the inlet valve 10 and closes the exhaust valve 12 so that fluid-pressure passes from the reservoir 7 to the pipe 24 leading to a fluid-pressure actuator, and at the same time acts via the passage 23 on a diaphragm 21 attached to the element 14 so as to exert a force equal to that applied by the pedal. In a modification, two parallel torsion rods are used.
