Abstract

627,542. Gas burners. LAMB, A. L. April 29, 1947, No. 11473. [Classes 75(i) and 75(iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] Control means for a gas burner comprises a thermostat heated by the main burner and controlling the main gas supply valve and an automatically closing valve in a by-pass to the main gas valve, the automatic valve being operatively connected with a gas ignition device so that when the automatic valve is opened a pilot burner supplied by the by-pass is ignited and heats the thermostat to open the main gas valve. A main gas valve c controlling the gas supply to the main burner is operated by a thermostat h heated by the main burner or by a pilot burner lit and extinguished with the main burner, and an automatically closing valve e in a by-pass to the main valve c controls the gas supply to a pilot burner d. By depressing a pedal f, the automatic valve e is opened against the action of a spring s and a collar e<SP>1</SP> on the stem of the valve engages a lever m which rotates an abrasive wheel o in contact with a flint p to ignite the pilot burner d. An electric lamp may be provided in a circuit controlled by the thermostat to indicate that the valve c is open. In the Provisional Specification it is stated that the main burner is also supplied through the automatically closing valve and that the thermostat is connected to the main gas valve through a turnbuckle which allows adjustment of the opening of the valve.
