Abstract

625,282. Measuring tight and heat radiations. STEGHART, F. L. Sept. 18, 1946, No. 28040. [Class 40 (iii)] Apparatus for measuring radiant light or heat comprises a plurality of detectors 1, 2, focussed on the same object, e.g. a furnace roof and which are switched consecutively to feed an indicator, recorder or controlling circuit ; normally the detectors produce the same effect, but should one path become obscured, e.g. due to smoke, the detectors produce unequal effects which is an indication that at least one detector is giving an abnormal output. Preferably a switch 6 connects first detector 1, then detectors 1 and 2, then detector 2, then detectors 1 and 2 and so on, to an amplifier 7 ; lamps 8, 9 indicate which detector is in circuit ; the amplifier feeds a measuring device 11, a controller 12 for adjusting the fuel supply to the furnace and a recorder 13 ; abnormal conditions cause relay 61 to be actuated to ring alarm bell 60 and shortcircuit at contacts 62 the controller 12. The detectors may be thermo-couples or photocells. Specification 624,309, [Group XXXV], is referred to.
