Abstract

[Class 105] [Also in Group XXXVIII] A visual indicator comprises a translucent screen and a solid pipe of transparent material between each portion of the screen to be illuminated and a corresponding lamp or group of lamps. Behind each illuminable area 4 of a translucent screen 3 is placed a solid pipe 1 of glass, acrylic resin or the like terminating in a cross-section identical with the area to be illuminated. As near as possible to the other end of each pipe 1 is placed a lamp 2 or group of lamps. The ends of the pipes 1 are formed into a monogrammic design based on the Union Jack (Fig. 3) or similar arrangements (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), whose sections may be selectively illuminated. A central area 17 may be formed and may be illuminated by either of two differently coloured lamps, or the cross-members may abut directly as shown in dotted lines. The pipes 1 need not be of uniform cross-section.
