Abstract

625,007. Electric incandescent lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 11, 1944, No. 19606. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1943. [Class 39(ii)] [Also in Group XL(a)] A filament mounting for an electric lamp comprises a filament 20 joined to a lead-in conductor 21 and extending to one side thereof, and a cooling-fin 32 secured to the conductor 21 and extending to the other side thereof for the purpose of dissipating heat. In a preferred arrangement for a monoplane tungsten filament, as shown, the ends 30 of the filament are straight and uncoiled and provided with a closely fitting slip-over coil 31 of tungsten, molybdenum, or an alloy thereof, of relatively close pitch. The coil-enclosed ends are arranged laterally of the lead-in conductors, which are made of iron, and welded thereto, the junctions being overlapped by the edges of plates 33 of metal, such as sheet-iron, which are located substantially in the plane of the filament. The plates 33 are preferably welded to the lead-in conductors 21 by spot welds 34, Fig. 3, (not shown) on either side of the junctions between the coilenclosed filament legs and the lead-in conductors, with a further weld at the point where a plate is directly over the said junction. As shown, the lamp is provided with an internal screen 25 supported by one of the lead-in conductors. Specifications 515,091 and 526,924 are referred to.
