Abstract

Ball floats are made by heating an end of a suitable length of polythene tube above its softening point, preferably to 105-115 DEG C., sealing the heated end, inserting into a mould consisting of two or more readily assembled and detached units, and introducing compressed gas into the tube to press it against the mould until it has cooled below the softening point of the polythene. The seamless ball float is suitable for use in storage and conducting systems for water and corrosive liquids such as strong alkali or acid, e.g. hydrofluoric acid.
