Abstract

624,435. Radio receiving systems; limiters. P.R.T. LABORATORIES, Ltd., and FELDMANN, P. A. June 4, 1946, No. 16999. [Class 40 (v)] An arrangement for limiting noise impulses, more particularly for use in television receivers, comprises a diode D2 or other unilaterally conducting device connected in series between the detector D1 and load resistor 3. The diode D2 is biassed over a high resistor 12 to conduct for signals of amplitude less than a predetermined level and to be non-conductive for greater amplitudes. The effect of the bias upon the detector D1 is compensated by means of a corresponding bias derived from the potentiometer 5, 11. In a modified arrangement (the drawing accompanying the Provisional Specification, not shown), the limiting level is varied according to the mean value of the signal by returning the resistor 12 to the resistor 5 and the resistor 11 to a tap on the cathode resistor 8 of a subsequent amplifying stage.
