Abstract

623,720. Digging peat &c. PEET, W. Aug. 19, 1947, No. 22964. [Class 68 (i)] Blocks of peat &c. are produced by a machine comprising a frame propelled at substantially constant height and supporting a cutter making a continuous cut approximately the width of the frame below and parallel to the ground surface, further cutters making continuous longitudinal parallel vertical cuts intersecting the first cut, and still further cutters making at intervals transverse cuts intersecting the first and second cuts. A tractor 11 carries a frame 12 supporting a blade 13 making a cut parallel to the ground surface, a shaft 15 carrying disks 14 making parallel longitudinal vertical cuts, and spades 16 making transverse cuts, the spades being operated by cranks 20a and pivoted to radius bars 18 which are pivoted to the front of the frame ; the middle spade 16 may be of double width to allow for a crankshaft bearing. The spades 16 and the crankshaft may be replaced by one or more radially-extending sets of angularly spaced blades. The frame 12 may be pivotally connected to the tractor and adjusted by hydraulic or screw jacks.
