Abstract
623,661. inductive control systems for consumption apparatus ; automatic voltage control converting ; transformers and reactors. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and WALKER, A. H. B. May 8, 1947, No. 12495. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXIX] To prevent demagnetization of the permanent magnet 20 by the control winding 22 in a saturable reactor or transformer of the kind in which a core 16, 17 carrying the controlled windings, such as 2, 3, is magnetically biassed by the opposed magneto motive forces of the magnet and control winding, the magnet and the portion 18 of the core carrying the control winding form parallel branches of the magnetic circuit which are isolated from one another by one or more air gaps, such as 19, 21. By this arrangement, whilst the magnet and control winching produce opposing fluxes in the portions of the core carrying the controlled windings, any flux reaching the magnet from the control winding over the air gaps 19, 21, is not opposed to that due to the M.M.F. of the magnet itself. In the arrangement shown, the controlled windings 2, 3 are in series with the primary winding of a transformer 7 supplying a load 15 through a rectifier 12, the control winding 22 being energized in proportion to the load voltage so as to modify in a corrective sense the reactance of the controlled windings upon deviation of the load voltage from normal.
