623,143. Centrifugal separators. HOPKINSONS, Ltd., BROWN, R. L., and SUTCLIFFE, A. R. April 21, 1947, No. 10550. [Class 23] The desludging apertures e of a centrifugal separator are controlled by plungers c held in their seats d by centrifugal force and operated by a slide a displaceable by fluid pressure along the axis of the separator. Fluid is supplied to one or other side of the slide and the action of centrifugal force on the fluid supplies the pressure to operate the slide. Fluid supplied on the lower side of the slide is discharged through the holes m. Fluid supplied to the top side of the slide is discharged through the holes n, or it travels along the sides of the plungers to clean the ports in the seats d. The plungers are axially tensioned without being subjected to bending by links f connecting the plungers to the slide.
