Abstract

622,965. Hot water boilers. ADAMS, P. J. G. Jan. 8, 1947, No 626. '[Class 64(i)] An electric water-heater comprises in combination an outer water container 1, an inner water container 2 mounted at or adjacent to one end of the outer container, an electric heating element 9 housed within the inner container, a sleeve 10 encircling the heating element and supported by securing one end to the adjacent end of the inner container, said sleeve having inlet apertures 12 in its lower part and outlet apertures in its upper part, the outlet apertures being connected to outlet pipes 13 coiled about the sleeve, means for condensing any steam generated in the inner container, said means being connected on one side to the inner container and on the other side to the feed pipe of the circulation system of the inner container and to a bye-pass pipe connected to the return feed pipe of the said system The inner water container and its associated parts may be mounted directly on the wall of the outer container by welding or other suitable means. In the form shown, the water supply pipes 3. 4 lead respectively to the bottom and outlet expansion pipes 6, 7 lead .respectively from the top of the containers 1, 2 the pipe 6 from container 1 feeding the consuming service e.g. sinks and baths, and the pipe 7 from the container 2 feeding the non-consuming service e.g. a radiator system, the return feed from the latter system being made through a pipe 8 leading back to the inner container. The steam condensing means comprises a drum 18 connected to the inner container by a pipe 19 located near to an opening 20 in the sleeve 10, steam condensed in the drum being returned to the inner container by the byepass pipe 22, the upper end of which connects with the pipe 7 feeding the non-consuming service, outflowing from the inner container passing to the pipe 7 upwardly through the pipe 19. The condensing drum may be disposed on the exterior of the outer container. The heating element 9 may be controlled by a thermostat 9a. Specification 570,316 is referred to.
