[Classes 97 (i) and 98 (i)] The optical axis of a photographic camera, a projector or like optical apparatus is adjusted by a lever, which has a fulcrum in the front plate of the apparatus and is contacted by an abutment on the lens panel so that the lens panel can be moved in any direction in a plane orthogonal to the optical axis; the lens panel is constrained so that the motions of the abutment and the lens are conjugated while the abutment and therefore the lens may be moved arbitrarily over the range of adjustment. As shown in Fig. 1 for a camera, a recess 20 in the camera front 2 provides the fulcrum for a lever 16 which has a spherical enlargement 19 engaging an abutment formed by the sides of an opening 21 in the lens panel 1 which registers with the recess 20. A screw 3 passing through an elongated slot 5 in the panel to engage the front 2 serves as a constraint, whereby for each position of the opening 20, brought about by rocking the lever 16, there is a definite position of the optical centre of the lens carried by the panel 1, while a screw 4 passing through a wider slot 6 in the panel serves to limit the range of adjustment. Another embodiment is described wherein the constraints are constituted by an intermediate plate which has a rib and groove interengagement with both the lens panel and the front plate and is movable in different directions relative to the panel and front plate respectively; for example, the direction of movement of the intermediate plate relative to the lens panel may be orthogonal to its direction of movement relative to the front plate.
