Abstract

622,475. Stacking elevator. U. D. ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., UNITED DAIRIES (LONDON), Ltd., and LUNN, F. M. May 31, 1946, No. 16656. [Class 78 (i)] An apparatus for stacking a pile of crates includes two parallel upwardly disposed endless chains 19 each of which supports one or more lifting frames 27 which frames are movable towards a crate disposed between the chains so as to engage and transport it along an upward stretch and then a downward stretch of the chains till the crate disengages itself on top of the pile. As illustrated, a feeding conveyer (not shown) delivers crates in sequence along horizontal rails 15. Each crate is stopped in position by members 26. Lifting frames 27, each pivoted at 28 to block 32 which in turn is pivoted at 38 to a chain, each carry hooks 30 which are swung inwards by contact with the spring- operated cams 33 and grip the crate. The crate passes upwards, pivots freely over and round the sprocket 17, and descends till it is released on the discharge platform 20 or on a crate standing thereon. The release may be assisted by fixed cam means which force the hooks apart. Arresting device for feeding conveyer. Arresting pin 39, which is pivoted to the link 41, which is pivoted to the frame at 42, is governed by cam 43 in accordance with the movement of the conveyer and the lifting members so that an oncoming crate is checked to allow the first crate to clear the feeding conveyer. A second arresting pin 44 is connected through a chain to the first pin 39 and works in timed relationship with it to check the oncoming crates and to allow a gap between the crates in which the first pin can move.
