Abstract

622,360. Adjusting radio apparatus. RABINOWICZ, ;11. March 5, 1945, Nos. 28436/47 and 28437/47. Divided out of 622,275. [Class 40 (v)] The subsidiary control devices of a wireless receiver which is mounted on a pillar in a raised position are operatively connected to manual actuating members mounted on the supporting pillar by adjusting members extending into the casing along the outside or inside of the pillar. In the embodiment shown, the casing is spherical in form, and is carried by a tubular pillar 101 forming part of a floor-stand, sliding in a column 102 and adjustable in height by pin 104A. A supporting plate 100 clamped to pillar 101, carries a variable condenser 10, which is driven by gear-wheels 111, 110, the latter being fixed to spindle 109. The lower casing part 106 has an opening closed by cover plate 107, which is fixed to a hub 108, freely rotatable about pillar 101. The top of the pillar forms a bearing for the spindle 109 of a spider carrying the upper casing part. The volume control 119 is operated through gearwheel 120 and toothed section 121 fixed on a sleeve 122 rotatable about pillar 101. Sleeve 122 is rotated by means of a collar 129 fixed to its lower end and bearing against collar 132. The wave-change switch 118 is operated in a similar manner by means of collar 127 fixed on sleeve 125. Sleeves 122, 125 extend through hub 108, sleeve 125 forming a bearing column. In a modification, (Fig. 2, not shown) a rotary wave-change switch mounted on a bracket above the supporting plate is operated by means of a forked lever which co-operates with a pin extending from a tubular shaft which is rotated within the supporting pillar by means of a pin acting through a slot in the pillar and driven by a sleeve below the hub. In this arrangement, the volume control potentiometer is mounted vertically above the top of the support pillar and is rotated by means of a shaft extending through the wave-change operating shaft and turned by similar means. The receiver is adjustable in height, the supporting shaft being secured to the floor-stand by a bayonet fastening. A rotary on-off switch is provided on the supporting plate, operated by a projection on the inside of the casing. The rotatable sleeves actuating the volume control and wave-change switch may be replaced by bars slidable within the support pillar, operating a sliding switch or potentiometer, or a rotary switch or potentiometer may be operated by a rack-and-pinion gearing. Wave-change switching may be effected automatically when the casing is turned through a certain angle by switches similar to those shown in Specification 622,275, (Figs. 3, 4, not shown).
