Abstract

622,183. Braille and like typewriters. TEJEDO, J. DE LA F. March 5, 1945, No. 12710/48. Divided out of 622,096. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 16, 1945.] [Class 100 (iv)] In a typewriter for embossing in Braille or like characters for the blind, means are provided whereby an operator can re-align a sheet in the machine by feeling with the fingers so as to continue typing after the sheet has been removed and replaced in the machine. These means comprise a front-edge gauge 6 and needles 100, carried by sidemembers 97 pivoted at 98, the leading edge of the sheet after being passed between fixed rollers 16 and rollers 17 on spring arms 17a being aligned against the gauge 6 and pressed against the needles 100 to form indentations. When the sheet is reinserted, it is aligned as before with the indentations situated over the needles and the roller 16 is then rotated by a knob 5 to bring the typing line adjacent to the impression anvil 4a. The gauge 6 and pins 100 are normally below the level of the sheet but are raised simultaneously with the raising of the rollers 17 for the insertion and alignment of the sheet by means of cams 87 on a shaft 86 operated by a handle 88. If the sheet is to be embossed on both faces, the lines on one face are staggered with respect to those on the other face by half a line-space. To facilitate this, indenting members 103, operated by a handle 105, can be used to emboss aligning markings on the sheet spaced by half a line-space from the markings made by the needles 100. After embossing one face, the sheet is turned over and the markings made by members 103 are aligned with the needles 100. Specification 622,096 is referred to.
