Abstract

622,043. Refrigerating. LIGHTFOOT REFRIGERATION CO., Ltd., and SINCLAIR, W. R. March 5, 1947, No. 6267. [Class 29] In a compression refrigerating system in which the evaporator is of the flooded type, mixed or dissolved refrigerant and lubricant are continuously withdrawn from the evaporator 1 to an oil-separating chamber 3 in which the refrigerant is evaporated by applied heat and returned to the suction pipe 6 and from which liquid containing a high oil content is separately withdrawn. Mixed refrigerant and lubricant flows from the evaporator 1 through tube 2 and a non-return valve 4 to the oil-concentrating chamber 3, where it is heated by hot refrigerant liquid flowing in a coil 7a, and refrigerant is thus driven off from the mixture and is then sucked into the suction conduit 6 through a pipe 5. Lubricant flows from chamber 3 through a pipe 10. A draw-off pipe 10, adjustable in height, is described, (Fig. 4, not shown). The evaporator 1 comprises brine headers 1a and brine circulating tubes 13, the refrigerant entering at 9a and being constrained by staggered partitions 11, 12 to follow a tortuous path to outlet 2. In a modification, (Fig. 3, not shown), the evaporator drum 1 is divided by longitudinal partitions so that refrigerant fills the divisions successively.
