[Class 52 (iii)] A desk of the kind having side pillars or pedestals each resting on a base is provided with intermediate members which when inserted in one position between the pedestal and its base results in a given height to the desk and when inserted in another position, such as reversed, results in another height to the desk. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the intermediate member 4 inserted between the base 3 and the pedestal 2 comprises side channel members 5 so connected by cross channel members 6 as to lie in different planes. In the position of the intermediate member 4 shown the desk is in its higher position and in order to set the desk at its lower height the intermediate member is reversed so that the side channel members 5 are in effect below the channel members 6 upon which the pedestal rests. Fig. 7 shows another form of intermediate member 14 comprising a plate 10 having edge flanges 8, 9 and an aperture 11 with depending side flanges 12 with inturned edges 13. For the higher position of the desk the intermediate member 14 is placed on the base 3 so that the plate 10 supports the pedestal and the inturned edges 13 rest on the base 3. To arrange the desk at the lower height the member 14 is reversed so that the other sides of the inturned edges 13 rest on the base 3 and the pedestal 2 also resting on the edges 13 the plate 10 then being below the top of the base 3. In another form separate bars of Z form constitute the intermediate member and the height of the desk is determined according to whether the upper or the lower flanges of the bars rest on the base.
