Abstract

621,986. Road-vehicle spring-suspensions; springs. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and SEDDON, R. M. Feb. 27, 1947, No. 5759. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] A flexible joint of the ball-and-socket type comprises a hemispherical socket-member 4 having an integral channel-shaped housing 5 coaxial with the axis of symmetry of the socketmember and opening in an opposite direction to the socket-member, a spherical-headed bolt 1 and resilient material 3 positioned between, and bonded to, the bolt head and socket member, and substantially surrounding the bolt head. The resilient material may be of natural or synthetic rubber. As applied to the connection of parts of a vehicle spring-suspension, the channel 5 forms a seating for a coiled suspension spring 9, the other end of which bears on a plate 7 screwed to a bracket 12 rigid with the chassis. The shank of the bolt 1 is secured to an arm 14 carrying the road-wheel 15.
