Abstract
621,894. Fumigating. BATEMAN, E. W. and FLETCHER, W. April 30, 1945, No. 10929. [Class 81(i)] Means for generating gas carrying the vapour of a pest-controlling substance comprises a container 1 accommodating a vaporizable p e s t - controlling substance supported on a refractory carrier 5 and adapted to be swept directly by a gaseous current from a composition capable of burning under confined conditions with evolution of hot gas located in an adjacent zone 7 of the container. As shown, the carrier is a number of porous blocks of kieselguhr impregnated with dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane or benzene hexachloride containing the gamma isomer, but alternatively the pest-controlling substance may be located in troughs, trays, &c. The gas evolving composition may be a pelleted mixture of lactose, potassium perchlorate and wax, or a composition as described in Specification 621,732, coated with a non-inflammable material 8 and separated from the porous block &c. by a felt disc 6 and from the sides of the container by an annular space 9. The container is also provided with an igniter 10, operated by a detachable striker stick 12 and with a removable emission slip 3 closed by means of a tear-off strip 4.
