Abstract
621,882. Pyrometers. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and LAND, T. Oct. 2, 1946, No. 29315. [Class 97 (iii)] An apparatus for determining the temperature of the surface of a hot body comprises a hollow transparent member 3 placed in close proximity to the body, and having an exteriorly reflecting surface except for a small aperture 5 through which the pyrometer, such as the photoelectric pyrometer 11, is focused on to the hot body. For measurements in the temperature range 800-1200‹ C. the member 3 is made of heat-absorbing glass or alternatively is made of ordinary glass and a heat-absorbing glass screen 13 is provided. For temperatures in lower ranges ordinary glass may be used. The arrangement is such that practically the whole of the total visible radiation is reflected back on to the hot body so that its surface is assimulated to that of a black body.
